Month In Review: October - Economic and Community Development Month
 
October renewed our focus on those around us and how we can positively impact their lives as we embraced our monthly theme of “Economic and Community Development” month. The following gives an overview of our Club as “People of Action” in the month of October:
 
Tuesday 2nd October:
At our Club’s lunch meeting:
·         Presentation by Dr. Murray and Mr Bhawani Persad who spoke on  
          the importance of eye care
 
Board Meeting held subsequently
 
Tuesday 9th October:
At our Club’s lunch meeting:
·         Presentation to the Principals of La Sieva RC and Rampanalgas RC
          of stationery gifts to the outgoing SEA class in recognition for those             students who excelled.
 
·         Special Feature: Rotary Club of Maraval’s “Rotary Royalty Series”
          was kicked off by Charter member and Past President Helen Ache
          who shared on her 25-year journey through Rotary
 
Saturday 13th  October:
Walk For Sight held around the Queen’s Park Savannah at 6am
 
Attendees: Past President Marie Dalton-Brown
 
The Rotary South Cluster hosted a farewell cocktail reception for DG Dominique Venere.
 
Attendees: President-Elect Marcia, her partner in service Mervyn, Secretary-Elect Giselle and Rotarian Adanna represented our Club.
 
Tuesday 16th October:
At our Club’s lunch meeting:
·         Presentation by Mr. Chris Bonterre of the A.R.R.O.W. Foundation for
          Literacy  on their brain-based literacy programme used to help
          persons of all ages and stroke victims.
 
Saturday 20th October:
Our Rotaract Club joined the local chapter of A21, a human trafficking awareness organization, in their Walk for Freedom held at the Brian Lara Promenade

Sunday 21st October      
 
Flood relief by various Rotarians to assist persons adversely affected by the heavy rains which caused disastrous flooding in the south and east parts of the island

Club Fellowship at SVAADA for Divali and as support for our Dine For a Cause fundraiser
